I made a very simple little Mac app that, when you run it, gives you the following information about whatever text is on the clipboard:

  • The word count

  • The character count

  • The number of pages based on the publisher’s standard average of 250 words per page.

  • The number of pages based on an educated guess of 2550 characters per page. (This is about what you’d get on a letter-sized page with 12pt Times new Roman)

It’s worth mentioning that this doesn’t take into account early page-breaks, title pages, etc. But then, neither will a publisher, because they’ll factor all that stuff in. If it seems like something a few people would want I’ll bake in some more accurate character-based page-estimation.

You might want to bind it to a keyboard shortcut if you expect to use it frequently.
