I made a very simple little Mac app that, when you run it, gives you the following information about whatever text is on the clipboard:
The word count
The character count
The number of pages based on the publisher’s standard average of 250 words per page.
The number of pages based on an educated guess of 2550 characters per page. (This is about what you’d get on a letter-sized page with 12pt Times new Roman)
It’s worth mentioning that this doesn’t take into account early page-breaks, title pages, etc. But then, neither will a publisher, because they’ll factor all that stuff in. If it seems like something a few people would want I’ll bake in some more accurate character-based page-estimation.
You might want to bind it to a keyboard shortcut if you expect to use it frequently.
