Public sortable read books list from Dropbox text file

Here’s how to create a public list of everything you’ve read (or anything else, really) in a sortable table format, like you can see on my Read books page.

Make your book list a public dropbox text file in Comma Separated Values format. Mine is here, so you can get an idea of the format.

Step 1: Include Javascript

You’ll need to include this code in your page header code injection.

<script src="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.10.2/jquery.min.js"></script>

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://51d.us/js/jquery.tablesorter.min.js"></script>

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://51d.us/js/readListTable.js"></script>

(If you’d like auto-generated Amazon affiliate links for each line you can include this js file instead of that last, but you’ll need to host it yourself so you can change the affiliate code.)

Step 2: The rest of the code, and customization

Put the code that you find in this file somewhere on your page. Edit the styles if you want, and definitely make sure to edit the link to your public reading list text file.

Thanks to:

Jamie Rubin, for the initial idea.

The creators of jQueryCSVtoTable and tablesorter, with apologies in the former case for gently mangling your code.
